What happens at closing?

Closing is the final step in your home buying journey. It's the big day when:

  • You meet with a signing agent
  • Review and sign the Closing Disclosure
  • Sign loan documents (if applicable)
  • Distribute funds
  • Officially transfer ownership from seller to buyer

The closing date is typically established when you and the seller first agree on the offer. While the seller isn't required to attend in person, they'll need to be available to sign necessary paperwork.

Here's what to expect when you arrive to close on your home.

Step 1: Arrive at your appointment
Your signing agent will greet you and guide you through the settlement. You might also see the seller, their real estate agent, and your real estate agent.
Step 2: Sign your paperwork
Your signing agent will present the final documents for your review. Have questions? Your Closing Advisor is right there to help.
Step 3: Notary and final review
The signing agent will verify and notarize your signature. Then, your Closing Advisor will double-check everything to ensure it's perfect.
Step 4: Celebrate your home!
Once all paperwork is complete and approved by everyone, it's time to celebrate your new home!
